Title: The Art of Handing It Over: When "I Got This" Meets the God Who Actually Does

We all know that person. The tough one. The strong-willed warrior who has been through the wringer so many times that her default settings are set to "Fine, I’ll do it myself."

This tee is dedicated to my sister—a woman who spent years convinced that the universe, her life, and her daily schedule were resting solely on her shoulders. When life hits hard, self-reliance feels like armor. But here is the secret the Kingdom tries to teach us: that armor is heavy, it rarely fits, and God never asked us to wear it in the first place.

The Original "I've Got This" Club

If you’ve ever caught yourself frantically trying to manage the universe while gripping a cold cup of coffee, congratulations: you are in holy company.

  • David trying on Saul’s Armor: Picture young David stepping up to fight Goliath. King Saul looks at him and says, "Here, put on my massive, heavy brass helmet and coat of mail." David puts it on, takes two steps, clanks around like a metal garbage can, and basically says, "Yeah, no. I can't walk in these. I haven't tested them." (1 Samuel 17:38–39). How often do we try to solve our giant-sized problems using human armor that wasn't built for us?

  • Gideon and the 400 Questions: An angel appears to Gideon and calls him a "mighty man of valor." Does Gideon say "Thank you"? No! Gideon proceeds to ask about five consecutive questions: "If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened? Where are all His miracles? Did He abandon us?" (Judges 6:13). He even laid out a fleece—twice!—just to make sure God wasn't messing with him.

  • Martha, Martha: Then there’s dear Martha, buzzing around the kitchen, sweating over the stew, muttering under her breath because Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet. She literally walks up to Jesus and tries to manage Him: "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?" And Jesus gently replies, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things..." (Luke 10:40–41).

The Script Was Written Before You Were Born

Here is the truth: before the foundation of the earth was laid, you were chosen. God formed you in your mother’s womb, knew every detail of your life, and authored your purpose.

Your life isn't an improvised play where you have to invent the script as you go along. It is held by the Author and Finisher of your faith. Every bill, every drama, every bad hair day, every heavy load—is anything too hard for the One who set the stars in place?

We think we’re holding everything together, but the Pharisees thought the exact same thing. They had their rules, their spiritual checklists, and their pious routines all figured out. Yet Jesus reprimanded them for their hypocrisy, pointing out that while they looked pristine on the outside, they completely missed the heart, faith, and mercy of God (Matthew 23). They tried to earn, control, and structure what could only be received through grace.

Drop the Stack, Take a Breath

So to my sister, and to every strong-willed believer out there trying to do it all: take off Saul’s heavy armor. Put down the fleece. Step out of Martha's kitchen. You don't have to carry the world—He’s already got it.
